Not legal advice. --- # What Georgia Commons is Georgia Commons makes Georgia's public government documents usable for everyone: residents, parents, researchers, journalists, and professionals. Public documents are technically available, but they are scattered, dense, and hard to use. Georgia Commons gathers them in one place and makes them easier to find. Bills and opinions include plain-language summaries and grounded question answering. The Code provides source text and search without AI interpretation. It is free, non-partisan, and built in the public interest. ## What's here today [Bills](/bills) covers bills and resolutions of the Georgia General Assembly from the 2025-2026 session onward: what each does, who sponsors it, where it stands, and the full text. Earlier sessions are not loaded. The bills page says exactly which sessions it holds. [Opinions](/opinions) covers Georgia Supreme Court decisions filed from 2020 onward. They come from CourtListener and, for decisions CourtListener has not yet published, from the PDFs the court posts on its own website, checked nightly against the court's own list. It is not a complete historical archive, and the opinions page says exactly what it holds. [The Georgia Code](/code) covers the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, current through the 2025 Regular Session of the General Assembly, section by section, read from the volumes the State of Georgia publishes. The hub page states exactly what it holds and where it differs from the printed set. Georgia Commons does not use AI to summarize, explain, or interpret the Code. More document types are planned, including Georgia Court of Appeals opinions and executive orders. ## How the AI works Bill and opinion pages include a plain-language summary and a chat panel. Both are generated by an AI model and grounded in the stored document: the summary is written from the document's own text, and the chat reads the full document before it answers. The quotes shown with a summary were checked against the source when the summary was written and must appear in it word for word; any that did not were discarded. The chat is asked to quote the document exactly, but its answers are not checked line by line as they stream, so check a quote that matters against the full text (every bill and opinion has a plain-text page, and the API and the MCP server have a quote-check tool). Code and constitution pages use no AI. They show and search the stored source text without summarizing or interpreting it. The AI on bill and opinion pages can still be wrong. It can misread a passage or overstate a conclusion, so treat its answers as a starting point and follow the link to the original document for anything that matters. Its sibling product, [Georgia Homeroom](https://georgiahomeroom.org), helps parents of Georgia K-12 students understand what the state expects schools to teach, grade by grade. ## Independence Georgia Commons is independent. It is not affiliated with, operated by, or endorsed by the State of Georgia, its courts, the Georgia General Assembly, or any government agency. It works from public documents; it does not speak for the institutions that produce them. Summaries are for general information and are not legal advice. ## Where the data comes from Bill data comes from [LegiScan](https://legiscan.com/). Court opinion data comes from [CourtListener](https://www.courtlistener.com/), a project of the [Free Law Project](https://free.law/), and from the [Supreme Court of Georgia's website](https://www.gasupreme.us/) for decisions CourtListener has not yet published. The Code is read from the PDF volumes of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated that the State of Georgia publishes, and every section page links to the page it came from. Georgia Commons summarizes and explains bills and opinions but does not interpret the Code.
