25 LC 112 2690 Senate Resolution 18 By: Senators Anderson of the 24th, Burns of the 23rd, Lucas of the 26th, Williams of the 25th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating Terry Holder upon his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, during his distinguished career, Terry Holder achieved an exceptional record3 of 588-183 in baseball coaching, ranking 13th in Georgia state history for total wins and4 becoming the first baseball coach in Georgia to reach 500 career victories; and5 W H E R E A S , h e led his t e a m s t o e i g h t s t a t e c h a m p i o n s h i p s w i t h i n a 12 year-long span,6 earning five titles at Evans High School and three at Greenbrier High School; and7 WHEREAS, his Evans High School teams achieved a historic 61-gam e winning streak8 between 1988 and 1990 in the state's largest classification—a record that remains the longest9 in Georgia history and ranks 14th in United States history; and10 WHEREAS, under his leadership, the 1989 Evans High School baseball team finished with11 an exemplary record of 29-0, earned a No. 3 national ranking by USA Today, and established12 itself as the last undefeated baseball team in Georgia history; and13 S. R. 18 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2690 WHEREAS, Terry Holder further served as the first head football coach at Greenbrier High14 School, achieving records of 7-4, 9-3, and 8-3 with playoff appearances each year; and15 WHEREAS, throughout his 30 baseball seasons and four football seasons as a head coach,16 he experienced only one losing season, which occurred during his first year coaching football17 at Wilkinson County High School; and18 WHEREAS, Terry Holder has been previously inducted into three p restigious Hall of19 Fames—the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA), the Georgia Dugout Club, and20 the Brewton-Parker College Athletic Hall of Fame; and21 WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has given inspiration to many through his high22 ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and he possesses the vast wisdom23 which only comes through experience and the strength of charact er which is achieved24 through overcoming the many challenges of life; and25 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this26 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28 congratulate Terry Holder upon the grand occasion of his induction into the Georgia Sports29 Hall of Fame and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Terry Holder.32 S.
