A RESOLUTION
Recognizing January 21, 2025, as Addiction Recovery Awareness D ay; and for other1
purposes.2
WHEREAS, substance use disorders and mental illness affect millions of individuals of all3
ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds as well as their families, friends, coworkers, and4
communities; and5
WHEREAS, more than 29 million Americans, including 900,000 Geor gians, are building6
lives in recovery from substance use disorders and mental illness; and7
WHEREAS, recovery saves lives, restores families, strengthens communities, and builds a8
stronger workforce, making Georgia a safer and healthier state; and9
WHEREAS, peer-led recovery community organizations across our state continue to educate10
the public and policy makers on the need for access to prevention, treatment, and peer-based11
recovery support systems; and12
WHEREAS, the voice of the recovery community is the single most important voice in the13
recovery process; and14

WHEREAS, on Addiction Recovery Awareness Day and throughout the year, we recommit15
ourselves to helping Georgians who are seeking the treatment th ey need and we celebrate16
Georgians who are embracing a life of recovery. 17
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that18
the members of this body recognize January 21, 2025, as Addicti on Recovery Awareness19
Day in the State of Georgia.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized21
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the22
public and the press.23
