A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Chapter 1A of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to early1
care and learning, so as to revise the requirements of child care learning centers and family2
child care learning homes; to require that such centers and hom es maintain at least one3
portable airway clearance device; to require that certain emplo yees of such centers and4
homes be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); to p rovide for a definition; to5
provide for related matters; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and6
for other purposes.7
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:8
SECTION 1.9
Chapter 1A of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to early care and10
learning, is amended in Code Sec tion 20-1A-2, relating to defin itions, by adding a new11
paragraph to read as follows:12
"(10.1) 'Portable airway clearance device' means a portable med ical device that uses13
manually created suction to remove a blockage from the airway d uring a choking14
emergency."15

SECTION 2.16
Said chapter is further amended in Code Section 20-1A-10, relat ing to regulation of early17
care and education programs, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:18
"(g.1) Child care learning centers and family child care learning homes shall:19
(1) Maintain on the premises of such center or home at least o ne portable airway20
clearance device; and21
(2) Ensure that each employee of such center or home who cares for or supervises22
children at such center or home is certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)23
within 45 days of beginning his or her employment with such center or home."24
SECTION 3.25
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law26
without such approval.27
SECTION 4.28
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.29
