SR44: SR44 Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week; recognize March 9 to 15, 2025

25 LC 112 2737 Senate Resolution 44 By: Senators Brass of the 6th, Ginn of the 47th, Anavitarte of the 31st, Watson of the 1st, Anderson of the 24th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing March 9 to 15, 2025, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week at the state capitol;1 and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system,3 affecting nearly 1 million people in the United States alone; and4 WHEREAS, MS generally strikes people in the prime of their life, between the ages of 205 to 50; the cause and course of the often debilitating symptoms of MS remain unknown; and6 no cure currently exists; and7 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is committed t o a world free of MS,8 heightening public knowledge about and insight into the disease; and9 WHEREAS, together we have transformed what it means to live wit h MS and provided10 global leadership to help achieve our vision of a world free of MS; and11 WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a driving force of12 MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatments, and a cure, and it has invested13 more than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and14 S. R. 44 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2737 WHEREAS, funds raised through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society fuel research on15 pathways to MS cures and invest in the MS research workforce at the best medical centers,16 universities, and other institutions throughout the United States and abroad, leading to many17 breakthroughs in the treatment of MS; and18 WHEREAS, the mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is to cure MS while19 empowering people affected by MS to live their best lives, a go al that all Americans and20 Georgians should support; and21 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia recognizes the importance of finding the cause and cure22 of MS and expresses its appreciation for the dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis23 Society - Georgia Chapter has shown toward creating a world free of MS.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 recognize March 9 to 15, 2025, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week at the state capitol26 and encourage all citizens to learn more about the disease and what actions they can take to27 support individuals with multiple sclerosis as well as their families.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the30 press.31 S.
