25 LC 112 2753 Senate Resolution 47 By: Senators Watson of the 1st, Setzler of the 37th, Hickman of the 4th, Mangham of the 55th, Walker III of the 20th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 5, 2025, as Physician's Day at the state c apitol and saluting the1 physicians of Georgia; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the practice of medicine, embodied in the clinical encounter between a patient3 and a physician, is fundamentally a moral activity arising from the imperative to care for4 patients and alleviate suffering; and5 WHEREAS, the relationship between a patient and a physician is based on trust, giving rise6 to physicians' ethical responsibility to place patients' welfar e above their own self-interest7 or obligations to others, to use sound medical judgment on beha lf of their patients, and to8 advocate for their patients' welfare; and9 WHEREAS, as of 2023, there are 27,750 physicians in Georgia who are trusted leaders with10 a positive and lasting impact on the health of their patients and the overall well-being of their11 communities; and12 WHEREAS, the Georgia legislature has fostered one of the strongest practice environments13 in the country for both patients and physicians; and14 S. R. 47 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2753 WHEREAS, physicians enter their profession to offer services of care, prevention, and15 surgical intervention when necessary for the physical and mental well-being of their patients16 and are deeply concerned with the public's overall health; and17 WHEREAS, this state recognizes the Medical Association of Georg ia along with several18 specialty societies, including the Medical Association of Atlan ta, Hall County Medical19 Society, Medical Reserve Corps, Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists, Georgia Society of20 Ophthalmology, Georgia Radiological Society, Georgia Orthopaedi c Society, Georgia21 OBGYN Society, Georgia Chapter of the American College of Physicians, Georgia Chapter22 of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association, Georgia23 Medical Directors Association, Georgia Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery,24 American College of Cardiology, Georgia Society of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Georgia25 College of Emergency Physicians, Georgia Society on Interventio nal Pain Coverage, and26 Resurgens Orthopaedics, for their invaluable contributions.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28 join in recognizing February 5, 2025, as Physician's Day at the state capitol and saluting the29 physicians of Georgia.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the32 press.33 S.
