A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Marvin Gary Simmons; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Marvin Gary Simmons on December 22, 2024; and3
WHEREAS, Marvin Gary Simmons was born on December 19, 1950, in LaFayette, Georgia,4
a beloved son of Marshall C. and Evie Denson Simmons; and5
WHEREAS, during his distinguished career in law enforcement, he served as part of the6
Floyd County Police Department, Rockmart Police Department, and Polk County Police7
Department, retiring from the Polk County Sheriff's Department as a captain after 44 years8
of exemplary service; and9
WHEREAS, he further served as a veteran of the United States National Guard, honorably10
and courageously protecting this nation's freedom and liberty a s well as ensuring the11
well-being of his fellow citizens; and12

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation13
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he14
made this world a better place in which to live; and15
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Marvin Gary Simmons was an active member16
of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church; and17
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Marvin Gary Simmons will long be18
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who19
had the great fortune of knowing him.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Marvin Gary Simmons and22
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the25
family of Marvin Gary Simmons.26
