25 LC 112 2701 Senate Resolution 54 By: Senators Williams of the 25th, Hatchett of the 50th, Summers of the 13th, Goodman of the 8th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating Butts County upon the bicentennial anniversary of its founding; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, on December 24, 1825, Butts County was created as the 64th county of the3 State of Georgia and named in honor of Captain Samuel Butts, a military officer killed in the4 Creek War of 1814; and5 WHEREAS, for two centuries, Butts County has played an important part in the vitality and6 economic prosperity of the state, beginning as an agrarian comm unity, transitioning over7 time into an industrial community, and now emerging as a logistical and technological leader8 in Central Georgia; and9 WHEREAS, Butts County is the home of many natural attractions, including Indian Springs10 State Park, the oldest state park in the United States, as well as the Ocmulgee River, Jackson11 Lake, the Dausett Trails Nature Center, and many miles of outdoor walking and biking trails,12 all of which have contributed toward the county's designation a s "The Outdoor Capital of13 Georgia"; and14 S. R. 54 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2701 WHEREAS, Butts County has become a notable location for motion picture and television15 film productions, which has brought positive attention and a burgeoning tourism industry to16 the community, contributing to its fame and notability; and17 WHEREAS, Butts County has enjoyed a long and rich history of ci vic and community18 involvement; political leadership at the local, state, and federal levels; religious and spiritual19 roots; enduring family and commercial businesses; and the honor of being a place where20 eight generations of Georgia citizens have called home.21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body22 congratulate Butts County upon the grand occasion of the bicent ennial anniversary of its23 founding and acknowledge its contributions over the past two centuries to the betterment of24 both the State of Georgia and the United States of America.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the27 press.28 S.
