25 LC 112 2730 House Resolution 80 By: Representatives Dickey of the 134th, Jasperse of the 11th, Huddleston of the 72nd, Leverett of the 123rd, Ford of the 170th, and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation on 8 5 years of service and1 recognizing February 10, 2025, as Georgia EMC Day at the state capitol; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, in 1940, the Superior Court of the State of Georgia approved the charter of the4 Georgia Rural Power Reserve EMC (now Georgia EMC), and its seve n founders held a5 special meeting at the Lanier Hotel in Macon wherein officers w ere elected and bylaws6 approved; and7 WHEREAS, EMCs are member-owned not-for-profit utilities that co llectively serve8 approximately 4.4 million people, nearly half of Georgia's population, across 73 percent of9 the state's land area; and10 WHEREAS, Georgia EMC is the statewide trade association represe nting the state's 4111 EMCs, Oglethorpe Power Corp., Georgia Transmission Corp., and G eorgia System12 Operations Corp.; and13 H. R. 80 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2730 WHEREAS, for the past 85 years, Georgia EMC has represented thi s network of member14 cooperatives, who are committed to providing safe, reliable, an d affordable electricity to15 communities across the state, along with other essential services such as broadband; and16 WHEREAS, as a result of more than eight decades of dedicated effort to improve the quality17 of life in rural Georgia, many electric cooperatives enjoy a value to their communities that18 goes beyond their ability to simply provide reliable light, heat, and broadband services, with19 communities depending on them for economic development initiati ves, civic leadership,20 commitment to local job creation, consumer advocacy, support fo r youth and education21 programs, charitable giving, and volunteerism efforts; and22 WHEREAS, Georgia's electric cooperatives are proud to be considered essential corporate23 participants in the state's responsible growth and development, and Georgia EMC looks24 forward to many more years of service to its member cooperatives as they continue providing25 essential electric and related services for Georgians.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body congratulate the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation for 8528 years of service and recognize February 10, 2025, as Georgia EMC Day at the state capitol.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the31 public and the press.32 H.
