25 LC 39 4515 House Resolution 96 By: Representatives Moore of the 91st and Crawford of the 89th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Dr. Gregory B. Levett, Sr., and dedicating a road i n his honor; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Dr. Gregory B. Levett, Sr., has long been recognized f or his expertise as a3 mortician and funeral director and the compassionate role he ha s played during the most4 difficult time of a family's life; and5 WHEREAS, Dr. Levett and his wife, Betty, founded the world renowned Gregory B. Levett6 & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory in 1980, growing the business to serve over 2,3007 families a year, employing 175 full and part-time employees, wi th four locations and an8 off-site crematory; and 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Levett began mastering the art of funeral service at a young age after being10 introduced to the industry by his father, the late George W. Levett, Sr.; and 11 WHEREAS, the Levett legacy of providing traditional, thoughtful , and dignified funeral12 services spans over four generations, with Dr. Levett passing on his knowledge and love of13 caring for others to his children, Gregory Bernard, Jr., T. Lan ier, and Deana, who are all14 active in the daily operations of the business; and 15 H. R. 96 - 1 - 25 LC 39 4515 WHEREAS, his leadership and guidance have been instrumental to numerous organizations,16 including the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Associa tion, Georgia Funeral17 Service Practitioners Association, DeKalb Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, City18 of Decatur Public School Board Council, NAACP, Salem Gate Merch ants Association,19 DeKalb Parks and Recreation Committee Board of Directors, Scottdale Planning Council,20 South DeKalb Business League, as well as the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, Gwinnett21 Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, and the Geor gia Hispanic22 Chamber of Commerce; and 23 WHEREAS, Dr. Levett has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including24 a Lifetime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama for hi s volunteer services,25 Funeral Director of the Year from American Funeral Director Magazine in 2015, and the26 Robert H. Miller Funeral Director of the Year in 2023; and 27 WHEREAS, the Levett family has donated over $2 million to institutions of higher learning,28 churches, hospitals, charities, and community organizations, with Emory Hillandale Hospital29 dedicating a reception area of the emergency department to honor Dr. Levett and his wife;30 and 31 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordi nary accomplishments of32 this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating a road in his honor.33 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL34 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 155 from I-285 to Snapfinger35 Road in DeKalb County is dedicated as the Dr. Gregory B. Levett, Sr. Parkway.36 H. R. 96 - 2 - 25 LC 39 4515 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and37 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Dr. Gregory B. Levett, Sr.38 Parkway.39 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized40 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to Dr.41 Gregory B.
