25 LC 112 2727 House Resolution 110 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, Bennett of the 94th, Hugley of the 141st, Jackson of the 68th, Campbell of the 35th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing January 23, 2025, as Doula Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, a doula is a non-clinical support person who provides care to improve perinatal2 health outcomes for laboring, birthing, and postpartum individuals, as well as loss support;3 and4 WHEREAS, the hallmarks of doula support emphasize community-bas ed interpersonal5 relationships, health promotion through preventative care, childbirth and health education,6 emotional support, and the improvement of health outcomes; and7 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has a rich history of mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters,8 or other close individuals attending births as supportive figures, and research shows that even9 without formal training, this support can significantly decreas e the likelihood of cesarean10 sections, shorten labor times, and improve the birthing experience; and11 WHEREAS, throughout history and across cultures, community-chos en doulas have been12 revered for their roles in supporting birthing individuals, and Georgia's doulas and doula13 agencies continue this legacy by training new doulas and providing support for those in need14 during significant life events; and15 H. R. 110 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2727 WHEREAS, doulas such as Berthina Marquez, Nar Sanders, Janisa C amille, Imani Gunn,16 Rara Hill, Wendi Wright, Naima Bond, Rosalee Henry, Destiny Muhammad, Simone, Ziah17 McKinney, Danielle Lyles Barton, Chi T Mathias, Zakirah Abdul-Hameed, Dericka Smith,18 Tiffany Bryant, Chanel Stryker, Corrinna Edwards, Kristina Chee k, Dr. Kimarie Bugg,19 Vanya Francis, Krystal Reese, McKenzie Mac Mitcham, Sylvester Pierce, Teandra Durham,20 Shaconna Haley, Haydee Salas, Sabrina Friday, Danielle Dixon, S hamika Miller, Mary21 Nicholson Jackson, Retta Sola, Jamita Jackson, Gabrielle Albert, Katherine Marquez, Felecia22 Dawson, Safira Zayas, Taylor Russaw, and Tianna Swain are makin g a meaningful23 difference in Georgia through their services, agencies, and advocacy; and24 WHEREAS, agencies and doula services such as Birthin' with Berthina, Guiding Lite LLC25 Holistic Midwifery & Family Health Services, Doula of the Divin e, Morehouse School of26 Medicine Center for Maternal Health Equity, Wellstar Hospital, Luv Your Yoni, Mothers27 Helping Hands Atlanta LLC, Chosen Womb, Divine Hands Agency, Bl ooming All Over,28 ATLdoula and Disability Advocacy, Your Divine Doula, Lamis Womb Care, Mamas With29 Her Wings LLC, Georgia Community Doula Coalition, Bellies to Ba bies Foundation,30 Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere Inc., Full Blown Birthing, Moth er's Nest, Envisioned31 Births Doula Services, Comadres Group, Golden Doula Birth Services, 4Kira4Moms, Whole32 Plant, SPA DOULAH LAH / BIRTH RESPONDERS, Safety Nest Birthing Services, Sista33 Girl Birth Initiative, and Yourrebrythtribe provide vital support to Georgia's families; and34 WHEREAS, these agencies and individuals create opportunities for doula entrepreneurs to35 collaborate on critical initiatives that enhance maternal and child health outcomes.36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that37 the members of this body recognize January 23, 2025, as Doula Day at the state capitol.38 H.
