25 LC 61 0023 House Bill 203 By: Representatives Griffin of the 149th, Hugley of the 141st, Myles of the 126th, Jackson of the 128th, Williams of the 168th, and others A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Part 1 of Article 2 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Of ficial Code of Georgia1 Annotated, relating to the Board of Regents, so as to provide that the Board of Regents shall2 include members who are graduates of a historically black college or university that is a unit3 of the University System of Georgia; to provide for a definitio n; to provide for related4 matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6 SECTION 1.7 Part 1 of Article 2 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Co de of Georgia Annotated,8 relating to the Board of Regents, is amended by adding a new Co d e s e c t i o n t o r e a d a s9 follows:10 "20-3-21.1.11 (a) As used in this Code section, the term 'historically black college or university' means12 an institution that meets the eligibility requirements of 34 C. F.R. Section 608.2 as of13 January 1, 2025, and which is a unit of the University System of Georgia.14 (b)(1) Beginning January 1, 2028, at least one at-large member of the board shall be a15 graduate of a historically black college or university.16 H. B. 203 - 1 - 25 LC 61 0023 (2) Beginning January 1, 2031, at least two at-large members o f the board shall be17 graduates of a historically black college or university."18 SECTION 2.19 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.20 H.
