Senate Resolution 80
By: Senators Burns of the 23rd, Hickman of the 4th and Anderson of the 24th
A RESOLUTION
Commending Robert Michael "Mike" Kile; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Robert Michael "Mike" Kile began his distinguished law enforcement career2
in 1969 as a patrolman with the Sardis Police Department in Burke County, Georgia, and the3
following year he became a deputy sheriff in Screven County; and4
WHEREAS, he was appointed chief deputy under Sheriff George Baz emore before being5
named chief of police in Hiltonia, Georgia, in 1984, where he served for eight years; and6
WHEREAS, in 1992, he was elected sheriff of Screven County, assuming office on January7
1, 1993, and serving as the county's chief officer for 32 years, during which time he oversaw8
the planning and construction of a 175-bed facility designed to replace the county's aging9
1930s jail; and10
WHEREAS, over his 55 year-long career, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to his11
country and community, ensuring the safety of Screven County's residents, including his wife12
of 50 years, Helen, as well as their three daughters, four gran dchildren, and one13
great-grandchild; and14

WHEREAS, he is an honest and dedicated public servant who striv es for excellence in all15
of his endeavors and whose primary concern is the welfare and s afety of the citizens of16
Screven County; and17
WHEREAS, he is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and by state and local18
government officials as a man of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration19
of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and20
WHEREAS, this spirited law enforcement professional has exhibited extraordinary devotion21
to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his22
duties; and23
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and24
often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement profess ionals on behalf of the25
citizens of this state.26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication exhibited by Robert Michael28
"Mike" Kile in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocatio n and express their utmost29
appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.30
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Robert Michael32
"Mike" Kile.33
