25 LC 112 2805 House Resolution 142 By: Representatives Carter of the 93rd, Hugley of the 141st, Scott of the 76th, Schofield of the 63rd, Miller of the 62nd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. Shannon Walker; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Shannon Walker is a cardiovascular physician leade r dedicated to2 improving health care outcomes and equity in underserved and diverse populations; and3 WHEREAS, she serves as an assistant professor at the Emory University School of Medicine4 and an attending cardiologist at Grady Hospital, where she prov ides patient care, mentors5 trainees, and leads initiatives focused on the prevention of heart disease; and6 WHEREAS, during her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins University, she was7 selected by the faculty to serve as a chief resident and led th e program through the8 COVID-19 crisis in 2020; and9 WHEREAS, she pursued sub-specialty training in cardiology at the University of California10 at San Francisco, where she was voted "Best Fellow of the Year" by the Internal Medicine11 Division and was selected as a research fellow in the prestigious Chan Zuckerberg BioHub12 Fellowship; and13 H. R. 142 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2805 WHEREAS, throughout her training, she has applied her clinical skills in underserved areas14 both domestically and abroad, conducting research in Uganda, providing volunteer clinical15 work in Mauritania, and performing asylum evaluations for refugees through Physicians for16 Human Rights; and17 WHEREAS, as additional testament to her dedication to those in need, she further served in18 remote hospitals on Native American reservations during the COVID-19 crisis; and19 WHEREAS, she is a physician leader known for her determination, creativity, and20 compassion who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to bui lding a health care21 system focused on true wellness and equity; and22 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this23 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25 the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Shannon Walk e r f o r h e r m a n y26 outstanding contributions on behalf of the underserved and exte nd the most sincere best27 wishes for continued health and happiness.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.30 Shannon Walker.31 H.
