25 LC 33 9771S (SCS) Senate Resolution 96 By: Senators Dixon of the 45th, Goodman of the 8th, Anavitarte of the 31st, Strickland of the 42nd and Cowsert of the 46th ADOPTED SENATE A RESOLUTION Commending the benefits and contributions of purebred dogs and recognizing May 1, 2025,1 as Purebred Dog Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, dedicated individuals in Georgia breed dogs to develop unique, predictable3 characteristics that enable dogs to excel in a wide range of beneficial areas; and4 WHEREAS, purebred dogs are living legacies of the cultures that c r e a t e d t h e m , a n d5 historically these dogs worked alongside their people and provided them companionship; and6 WHEREAS, the service of these breeds continues today as they work alongside humans and7 provide inestimable companionship as guide dogs, service dogs, conservation dogs, livestock8 guardians, search and rescue dogs, earth dogs, police dogs, can ine soldiers serving by the9 sides of our military men and women, and guardians of family, home, and hearth; and10 WHEREAS, purebred dogs have been of enormous help to medical sc ience, serving as11 models for many heritable human diseases, playing a role in humanity's understanding of the12 human and canine genomes, and benefitting pharmaceutical research and development; and13 S. R. 96 - 1 - 25 LC 33 9771S (SCS) WHEREAS, purebred dogs are working dogs, serving as avalanche d ogs, trackers and14 trailers, herders, controllers of vermin, water rescuers, carti ng and sled dogs, retrievers,15 protectors, hunters, and bird dogs, and they are always the heartbeat of a companion near and16 dear to humans; and17 WHEREAS, all dogs should be valued regardless of their ancestry, but the purpose-bred dog18 and the predictability of its breed should be cherished and preserved; and19 WHEREAS, each breed is incredibly etched in the history of the culture that created it, just20 as surely as that culture's music, art, and language, making it abundantly fitting that we21 recognize purebred dogs.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23 commend the benefits and contributions of purebred dogs and rec ognize May 1, 2025, as24 Purebred Dog Day at the state capitol.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the27 press. 28 S.
