25 LC 112 2830 House Resolution 151 By: Representatives Franklin of the 160th, Burns of the 159th, Parrish of the 158th, Jones of the 47th, and Dempsey of the 13th A RESOLUTION Commending the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Societ y Daughters of the1 American Revolution on its 61st anniversary; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia was founded by General James Edward Oglethorpe, who3 received a royal charter to establish the 13th American colony in honor of King George II4 and led 116 pioneers aboard the HMS Anne, landing near present-day Savannah on February5 12, 1733; and6 WHEREAS, since its founding 292 years ago, Georgia has grown from a settlement of early7 colonists to a thriving state with an estimated population of 11 million, transitioning from a8 predominantly rural economy to the commercial, financial, and c ultural center of the9 Southeast; and10 WHEREAS, Bulloch County was established in 1796 as Georgia's 21st county, formed from11 St. Philip's Parish and named in honor of Archibald Bulloch, a delegate to the Continental12 Congress of 1775 and Georgia's first governor in 1776; and13 WHEREAS, the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the14 American Revolution was organized on February 29, 1964, with 17 charter members,15 H. R. 151 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2830 including Althea DeLoach Adams, Jessie Olliff Averitt, Laura Sm ith Banks, Elise Baggs16 Beasley, Josie Helen Mathews Blitch, Helen Snooks Collins, Jean ette Grace Cone, Ida17 Teressa Bird Foy, Lucille Cannady Hagin, Bertie Mercer Kennedy, Mae Kennedy, Ava18 Phillips Moore, Gerstle DeLoach Nevil, Marguerite Nunnally Nevi lle, Edna DeLoach19 Robbins, Patricia Mathewson Robbins, and Mary Groover Demmond Watson; and20 WHEREAS, for more than six decades, the Archibald Bulloch Chapt er has demonstrated21 leadership at the local and state levels, contributed to national projects, and diligently worked22 to uphold the objectives of historic preservation, education, and patriotism; and23 WHEREAS, the chapter actively assists and encourages women in r esearching their24 genealogy to identify patriots who served in the American Revolutionary War from April 19,25 1775, to September 3, 1783, or who provided military service support; and26 WHEREAS, under the leadership of Regent Martha Ann Tanner for the 2024-2026 term, the27 Archibald Bulloch Chapter continues to promote awareness of Georgia's rich history and the28 significance of the state's founding; and29 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distingu ished organization be30 appropriately honored.31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that32 the members of this body commend the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society33 Daughters of the American Revolution upon the grand occasion of both its 61st anniversary34 and this year's Georgia Day, which the chapter will celebrate on February 13, 2025, with an35 open luncheon in Statesboro, Georgia.36 H. R. 151 - 2 - 25 LC 112 2830 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized37 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the38 Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.39 H.
