25 LC 129 0101 House Resolution 168 By: Representatives Holly of the 116th, Berry of the 56th, and Bell of the 75th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. David A. Thomas upon his retirement from Morehouse1 College; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Dr. David A. Thomas has long been recognized for the v ital role that he has3 played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the we lfare of the students,4 faculty, and staff of Morehouse College; and5 WHEREAS, installed in 2018, Dr. Thomas led a dynamic, purpose-d riven, and6 record-breaking tenure as the 12th president of Morehouse College; and7 WHEREAS, guided by his expertise, the college transitioned from experiencing structural8 deficits to funding significant campus projects, enhancing its technology infrastructure, and9 offering competitive pay to its employees; and10 WHEREAS, he oversaw an unprecedented fund-raising acceleration that has generated over11 $240 million, a giving total higher than any other president in the college's 157 year-long12 history; and13 H. R. 168 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0101 WHEREAS, due to his exemplary leadership, Morehouse College has extended its reach by14 launching its first online degree programs and has amplified it s positioning as a center of15 intellectual discourse and social engagement in areas such as global leadership, professional16 equity, social justice, and innovation; and17 WHEREAS, the strategic theme of "Morehouse Beyond Borders" has included milestone18 successes such as the creation of the Center for Black Entrepre neurship with the Black19 Economic Alliance and Spelman College as well as the establishm ent of both the Black20 Men's Research Institute and the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership's Higher21 Education in Prisons program; and22 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distingu ished individual be23 appropriately honored.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25 the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. David A. Tho mas for his efficient,26 effective, unselfish, and dedicated service as the 12th preside nt of Morehouse College;27 congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend the most sincere best28 wishes for continued health and happiness.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.31 David A.
