25 LC 112 2858 House Resolution 193 By: Representatives Santos of the 117th, Holly of the 116th, Lewis-Ward of the 115th, Crowe of the 118th, Flournoy of the 74th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Haven House; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the Flint Circuit Council on Family Violence Inc. was organized as a 501(c)(3)2 nonprofit in May 1989 with the primary goal of advocating for women through the judicial3 system at a time when domestic violence was only beginning to be recognized as a societal4 issue; and5 WHEREAS, in 1999, the agency secured a house formerly known as the Hampton Boys6 Home, and following renovations, Haven House was opened later that year as a shelter for7 survivors and their children to stay after leaving a violent situation; and8 WHEREAS, as the organization expanded its mission, Haven House began offering9 additional services to survivors, including financial assistanc e, support groups,10 transportation, and a food pantry, alongside its core legal adv ocacy and case management11 programs; and12 WHEREAS, due to the increasing need for shelter and support services, Haven House, with13 the support of the Henry County Commissioners and dedicated boa rd members, opened a14 new facility in June 2011 capable of housing 48 adults and children; and15 H. R. 193 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2858 WHEREAS, Haven House continues to evolve to meet the needs of d omestic violence16 survivors, offering a safe and supportive environment for all family types with a family wing,17 adult wing, large community rooms, and office spaces to enhance services; and18 WHEREAS, in 2024, Haven House provided shelter to 695 survivors , processed 29219 temporary protective orders, responded to 3,444 crisis calls, a nd delivered counseling20 services to 432 individuals; and21 WHEREAS, February 5, 2025, marks Stand With Survivors Day at the state capitol, a day22 dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the rights and safety of domestic violence23 survivors; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le organization be25 appropriately honored during this special time.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize and commend Haven House for its many outstanding28 contributions on behalf of those in need as well as extend sincere best wishes for continued29 success.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appr opriate copy of t his resolution ava ilable for distribution to32 Haven House.33 H.
