A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and congratulating Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council's1
Executive Director Michael T. Ayers upon being awarded Georgia' s Outstanding Police2
Chief of the Year; and for other purposes.3
WHEREAS, Executive Director Michael T. Ayers began his career in 1989 with the Hartwell4
Police Department and subsequently joined the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 1990,5
rising to the rank of Special Agent in Charge; and6
WHEREAS, he was appointed to the position of Executive Director of the Georgia Peace7
Officers Standards and Training Council (POST) by Governor Brian P. Kemp on May 15,8
2019; and9
WHEREAS, Director Ayers graduated from the University of Georgi a with a Bachelor of10
Arts in criminal justice; and11
WHEREAS, Director Ayers has graduated from advanced law enforce ment leadership12
programs such as the FBI National Academy, the Georgia Law Enfo rcement Professional13
Management Program, and the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange Program;14
and15

WHEREAS, Director Ayers is a member of and has served as President of the International16
Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training; and17
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Director Ayers, POST operations were modernized, and18
he significantly contributed to the safety and efficiency of la w enforcement throughout19
Georgia while acknowledging the recruiting and retention challenges facing law enforcement20
executives; and21
WHEREAS, Director Ayers retired from service to the citizens of Georgia on January 2,22
2025; and23
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to recognize the impactful changes at POST,24
which benefit all law enforcement as well as the citizens of th e State of Georgia, brought25
about by the visionary leadership of Executive Director Michael T. Ayers.26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27
the members of this body recognize and congratulate Georgia Peace Officers Standards and28
Training Council's Executive Director Michael T. Ayers upon bei ng awarded Georgia's29
Outstanding Police Chief of the Year.30
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31
and directed to make an appr opriate copy of t his resolution ava ilable for distribution to32
Executive Director Michael T. Ayers.33
