25 LC 44 3015 Senate Bill 135 By: Senator James of the 28th A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 12 of the Official Cod e of Georgia Annotated,1 relating to general provisions regarding parks, historic areas, memorials, and recreation, so2 as to restrict development of residential structures on certain coastal islands; to provide for3 a short title; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:5 SECTION 1.6 This Act shall be known and may be cited as the "Coastal Island Preservation Act."7 SECTION 2.8 Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 12 of the Official Code of Geor gia Annotated, relating to9 general provisions regarding parks, historic areas, memorials, and recreation, is amended by10 adding a new Code section to read as follows:11 "12-3-13.12 In furtherance of the protection of the cultural heritage and p reservation of the natural13 resources, environment, and vital areas of this state, on the coastal islands of this state that14 are not accessible by bridge, it shall be unlawful for any person to construct, assemble, or15 S. B. 135 - 1 - 25 LC 44 3015 otherwise erect any new single-family residential structure exceeding the square footage16 of the largest such structure existing on any such island as of July 11, 1995."17 SECTION 3.18 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.19 S.
