SR186: SR186 Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalition; recognize

25 LC 129 0069 Senate Resolution 186 By: Senators Burns of the 23rd and Jones II of the 22nd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalition; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, founded in 1998, Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalitio n (GAIC) is a2 non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) community service organizatio n that represents over 153 denominations and religious systems; and4 WHEREAS, GAIC provides essential community services such as fee ding the poor,5 educating voters, encouraging civic participation, and organizing groups and committees to6 address community needs; and7 WHEREAS, in 2020, GAIC expanded its reach to more than 17 counties in Georgia as well8 as to South Carolina to further support and advocate for civic engagement, environmental9 justice, economic empowerment, healthcare, equal justice, youth development, senior and10 disabled assistance, and social activism; and11 WHEREAS, GAIC has recently focused its efforts on childhood literacy and voting rights,12 collaborating with organizations such as the Area Agency on Aging, Georgia Legal Counsel,13 National Get-Out-To-Vote, East Central Regional Hospital, and the Georgia Family Council14 to advance its mission; and15 S. R. 186 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0069 WHEREAS, following Hurricane Helene in 2024, GAIC served as the Hurricane Helene16 Relief and Resource Center, providing food, supplies, housing, grief counseling, childcare,17 elder care, and assistance with debris clearing despite a two-week power outage; and18 WHEREAS, GAIC's robust voter engagement initiatives include a V oters' Protection19 Hotline, educational forums, programs targeting young and minor ity voters, senior voter20 education, and election protection efforts; and21 WHEREAS, GAIC actively promotes community engagement through innovative programs22 such as the County Community Development Services Initiative an d the Clean Air and23 Environmentally Responsive Young Voters Initiative; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstandi ng contributions of this25 extraordinary organization be appropriately recognized. 26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 recognize and commend Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalition for its decades of service on28 behalf of the citizens of this state as well as extend best wishes for its continued growth and29 success.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Greater Augusta's32 Interfaith Coalition. 33 S.
