25 LC 57 0251S House Bill 471 (COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE) By: Representatives Cheokas of the 151st, Dubnik of the 29th, Greene of the 154th, Hawkins of the 27th, Barrett of the 24th, and others A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Article 1 of Chapter 7 of Title 31 of the Official Cod e of Georgia Annotated,1 relating to regulation of hospitals and related institutions, s o as to require that licensed2 general hospitals and birthing centers make available a water s afety education video to3 parents or guardians of newborn infants; to provide for a form to be developed by the4 Department of Community Health; to provide for rules and regula tions; to provide for a5 definition; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:7 SECTION 1.8 Article 1 of Chapter 7 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Geor gia Annotated, relating to9 regulation of hospitals and related institutions, is amended by adding a new Code section to10 read as follows:11 "31-7-24.12 (a) As used in this Code section, the term 'water safety educa tion' shall have the same13 meaning as set forth in Code Section 20-2-779.4.14 H. B. 471 (SUB) - 1 - 25 LC 57 0251S (b)(1) Prior to discharge, a licensed general hospital or birt hing center shall make15 available to each newborn infant's parent or guardian a video presentation on water safety16 education to be viewed onsite.17 (2) Such hospital and birthing center shall provide such parent or guardian with a water18 safety education form to be developed by the department.19 (c) The department shall promulgate rules and regulations nece ssary to implement the20 provisions of this Code section."21 SECTION 2.22 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.23 H.
