25 LC 112 3024 House Resolution 278 By: Representatives Powell of the 33rd, Tarvin of the 2nd, Jasperse of the 11th, Hatchett of the 155th, Dempsey of the 13th, and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating Leo Mazzone upon his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame has recently announced its Class of 20253 inductees, with the 69th Annual Induction Ceremony set to take place on February 21 and4 22, 2025, in Macon, Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, Leo Mazzone, one of the most influential pitching coac hes in Major League6 Baseball history, has been selected for induction into the Geor gia Sports Hall of Fame in7 recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the sport; and8 WHEREAS, he served as the Atlanta Braves' pitching coach from 1 990 to 2005,9 orchestrating one of the most dominant pitching rotations in baseball history and mentoring10 Hall of Famers Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz to sustained excellence; and11 WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Braves secured 14 consecutiv e division titles and12 captured the 1995 World Series, earning its well-deserved reput ation as one of the most13 successful franchises of the era; and14 H. R. 278 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3024 WHEREAS, known for his innovative coaching methods, including his emphasis on frequent15 throwing between starts, Leo Mazzone revolutionized the way pit chers prepared for16 competition and left a lasting impact on the game; and17 WHEREAS, his dedication, expertise, and ability to maximize the potential of his pitchers18 earned him widespread respect throughout the baseball community , culminating in his19 induction into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2022; and20 WHEREAS, the induction of Leo Mazzone into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is a fitting21 tribute to his legacy as a visionary coach and a key architect of one of baseball's greatest22 dynasties.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body congratulate Leo Mazzone upon his indu ction into the Georgia25 Sports Hall of Fame and extend the most sincere best wishes for future health and happiness.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Leo28 Mazzone.29 H.
