25 LC 129 0145 House Resolution 310 By: Representatives Santos of the 117th, Holly of the 116th, Douglas of the 78th, Flournoy of the 74th, Kahaian of the 81st, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Judge Holly W. Veal on her outstanding public service; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Judge Holly W. Veal has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for3 the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep p ersonal commitment to the4 welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,6 talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state, as evidenced7 dramatically by her superlative service with the Superior Court of Henry County; and8 WHEREAS, Judge Veal is a trailblazer in the legal profession, s erving as the first9 Guyanese/African American as well as the first woman to hold a judgeship in the Superior10 Court of Henry County; and11 WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, she has been recognized by her peers and12 colleagues for her exemplary advocacy, having argued cases befo re the Supreme Court of13 Georgia, and her dedication to ethical standards in the legal p rofession is reflected in her14 service on the Formal Advisory Opinion Board through the State Bar of Georgia; and15 H. R. 310 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0145 WHEREAS, Judge Veal has further demonstrated a steadfast commit ment to reform and16 rehabilitation through her oversight of the Henry County Adult Felony Drug Court Program,17 championing initiatives that provide opportunities for drug off enders to reintegrate into18 society and pursue paths to recovery; and19 WHEREAS, outside the courtroom, she remains deeply engaged in h er community and20 serves on the Board of Directors for the Hands of Hope Clinic; and21 WHEREAS, as additional testament to her excellent service, she was previously honored by22 the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for her lea dership as chair of the23 Debra Blum Mental Health Committee; and24 WHEREAS, with her steadfast dedication to justice and the proper administration of the law,25 Judge Holly W. Veal continues to inspire and lead, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that26 she be appropriately honored.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body recognize and commend Judge Holly W. V eal for her efficient,29 effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and extend their30 most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Judge33 Holly W.
