25 LC 112 3055 Senate Resolution 209 By: Senators Esteves of the 35th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Jame s of the 28th, Rhett of the 33rd, Albers of the 56th and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending Aaliyah Phillips, Miss Cobb Count y 2025; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Aaliyah Phillips was crowned Miss Cobb County 2025 at the 66th annual Miss3 Cobb County Scholarship Competition in Marietta, Georgia, a tit le that recognizes her4 dedication to education, leadership, and community service; and5 WHEREAS, she will go on to compete for the title of Miss Georgia in June 2025, the winner6 of which will represent the State of Georgia in the Miss America Competition; and7 WHEREAS, the Miss Cobb County Scholarship Board additionally aw arded her with a8 $10,000 cash scholarship to support her pursuit of a Doctor of Education in education policy9 as well as her ultimate goal of serving as the Secretary of the United States Department of10 Education; and11 WHEREAS, a 2024 magna cum laude graduate of Columbus State Univ ersity, she earned12 a Bachelor of Science in elementary education while maintaining consistent placement on13 the President's List and serving as a Student Government Association senator; and14 S. R. 209 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3055 WHEREAS, she has further honed her leadership skills by serving as a communications15 intern for United States Senator Jon Ossoff, training at the Ro n Clark Academy, and16 attending the Disney Dreamers Academy; and17 WHEREAS, Aaliyah is currently in her first year as a kindergarten teacher and has dedicated18 over 500 hours to community service, actively participating in local events as a vocalist,19 speaker, advocate, and volunteer; and20 WHEREAS, she further serves as the founder of SPREAD: Spreading Literacy Through21 Reading, an initia tive focused on promoting literacy equality, through which she has22 partnered with organizations such as Girls, Inc.; United Way of Greater Atlanta; the Literacy23 Alliance; and Cobb Collaborative, Educating, Engaging and Empowering; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distingu ished young woman be25 appropriately honored.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 congratulate Aaliyah Phillips for winning the title of Miss Cobb County 2025, commend her28 for her outstanding service on behalf of the students of this state, and extend best wishes for29 success in future competition.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Aaliyah Phillips.32 S.
