25 LC 112 2962 Senate Resolution 227 By: Senators Hickman of the 4th and Walker III of the 20th A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending Dooly County Schools, recipient o f the Georgia Reads1 Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critic al role in addressing low4 literacy rates; and5 W H E R E A S , t h e G e o r g i a R e a d s C o m m u n i t y A w a r d w a s e s t a b l i s h e d t o recognize6 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and m easurable results in literacy8 improvement; and9 WHEREAS, Dooly County Schools was selected as a recipient of th e Georgia Reads10 Community Award for its efforts in leveraging the L4GA grant to support literacy initiatives11 aimed at improving student reading outcomes; and12 WHEREAS, collaboration with Family Connections has enhanced lit eracy efforts by13 organizing reading events, establishing Little Libraries, and p romoting reading through14 incentives that foster a love for reading; and15 S. R. 227 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2962 WHEREAS, Albany Primary Health has contributed by providing fre e vision and hearing16 screenings, ensuring students have the necessary resources to s ucceed in literacy17 development; and18 WHEREAS, Dooly County Schools and its partners have diligently developed and19 implemented innovative programs that have increased literacy ra tes within their20 communities; and21 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,22 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and23 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of Dooly County Schools and its partners serve24 as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of communi ty-driven solutions to25 address literacy challenges.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award reci pients, particularly28 Dooly County Schools, for their exemplary service and unwaverin g commitment to29 improving literacy in their communities.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Dooly County32 Schools.33 S.
