25 LC 112 3082 Senate Resolution 213 By: Senators James of the 28th, Rahman of the 5th, Rhett of the 33rd, Jones of the 10th, Harbison of the 15th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 19, 2025, as Certified Community Midwife Day at the state capitol;1 and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, community midwives have long been recognized by their peers and the citizens3 of this state for their major accomplishments and essential role as agents of public safety for4 maternal and child health services; and5 WHEREAS, the community midwife model serves as an example for m aternal and child6 health professionals in Georgia and across the nation; and7 WHEREAS, these midwives have demonstrated best practices throug h countless hours8 dedicated to their communitie s, providing acce ssibility, traini ng, and service while9 representing the diversity of midwifery in scope, skill level, culture, languages spoken,10 religion, gender, and geography as well as creating educational programs, services, and11 models of care that improve outcomes and reduce the risks of premature birth and infant and12 maternal morbidity and mortality; and13 WHEREAS, Certified Community Midwives are pillars of their comm unities, providing14 alliance, access, and action; earning their titles and recognit ion through their outstanding15 S. R. 213 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3082 work in community midwifery; and receiving honorary certification by endorsement for their16 years of dedicated service and unyielding compassion for humanity; and17 WHEREAS, the hallmarks of community midwifery emphasize communi ty-based18 interpersonal relationships, health promotion with preventive c are, health education,19 continuity of care, early recognition of abnormalities, and ski llful communication with20 collaborative health care teams, including physicians, mid-level providers, and specialists;21 and22 WHEREAS, this nation has a centuries-old history of midwives providing conscientious care23 to women in their communities, with evidence of better outcomes than physicians and24 hospital providers for low-risk women; and25 WHEREAS, throughout history, revered community-chosen midwives around the world26 have provided essential care and support; and27 WHEREAS, these midwives are known for their outstanding work in demonstrating how to28 keep low-risk mothers and babies safe during the childbearing year.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 commend Tomasina Oliver, UmmSalamaah Abdullah-Zaimah, Corrinna Edwards, Tomecas31 Gibson, Nar Sandars, Chasity Millen, Jasmine Bradfield, Hadassah Bellot, Naticia Taylor,32 Teri Boles, Morgan Vanbuul, Ayanna Garrick, Bethany Erby, Marsha Ford, Melissa Phillipe,33 Erica Glass, Sarah Butler, Samantha Smith, Nicole Gaynor, Tahaira James, and the Doula34 of the Divine midwife students for their unselfish dedication to childbearing people and their35 families as well as for earning honorary community midwife cert ification and recognize36 February 19, 2025, as Certified Community Midwife Day at the state capitol.37 S.
