Senate Resolution 225

A RESOLUTION
Congratulating and commending Rise Augusta, recipient of the Georgia Reads Community1
Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3
through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critic al role in addressing low4
literacy rates; and5
W H E R E A S , t h e G e o r g i a R e a d s C o m m u n i t y A w a r d w a s e s t a b l i s h e d t o recognize6
communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7
sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and m easurable results in literacy8
improvement; and9
WHEREAS, Rise Augusta has been a pillar of support for Richmond County students since10
1997, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to student success; and11
WHEREAS, in 2020, Rise Augusta transitioned from its origins as Communities In Schools12
Augusta-Richmond County into an independent, community-driven organization dedicated13
to addressing the unique educational needs of students in the region; and14

WHEREAS, Rise Augusta has fostered meaningful partnerships with the Richmond County15
School System, CSRA Community Foundation, Regional Educational Services Agency, and16
the Jessye Norman School of the Arts to provide holistic educational support; and17
WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,18
ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and19
WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of Rise Augusta and its p artners serve as an20
inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of community-dri ven solutions to address21
literacy challenges.22
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23
congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award reci pients, particularly24
Rise Augusta, for their exemplary service and unwavering commitment to improving literacy25
in their communities.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Rise Augusta.28
