25 LC 112 2998 House Resolution 320 By: Representatives Schofield of the 63rd, Henderson of the 113th, Carter of the 93rd, Jackson of the 68th, Scott of the 76th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the American Cancer Society Cancer A ction Network in1 Georgia; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) empowers3 advocates across all states to raise their voices and influence evidence-based public policy4 changes aimed at reducing the cancer burden in Georgia and beyond; and5 WHEREAS, since 2001, ACS CAN has served as the nonprofit, nonpa rtisan advocacy6 affiliate of the American Cancer Society, successfully securing billions of dollars in cancer7 research funding, expanding access to quality, affordable health care, and advancing proven8 tobacco control measures; and9 WHEREAS, an estimated 66,000 Georgians will be diagnosed with c ancer and more than10 19,000 Georgians will lose their lives to the disease in 2025—A CS CAN is committed to11 ensuring that these individuals will have access to fair and equitable care; and12 WHEREAS, cancer patients face a multitude of challenges beyond their medical diagnoses,13 including physical, emotional, and financial burdens that affect their quality of life; and14 H. R. 320 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2998 WHEREAS, effective policies aimed at cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment not15 only have the potential to save countless lives but also signif icantly reduce the financial16 strain that this disease places on individuals and the state as a whole; and17 WHEREAS, as Georgia continues to navigate complex legislative d ecisions, efforts to18 combat cancer remain more critical than ever in providing compr ehensive support for19 patients and survivors; and20 WHEREAS, ACS CAN and its dedicated volunteers—many of whom have been personally21 impacted by cancer—continue to rally for meaningful policy changes and champion cancer22 care as a top priority at the federal, state, and local levels.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body recognize and commend the American Can cer Society Cancer25 Action Network in Georgia for its many outstanding contributions on behalf of the citizens26 of this state and beyond as well as extend best wishes for continued success.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the29 American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in Georgia.30 H.
