25 LC 112 3057 House Resolution 321 By: Representative Dubnik of the 29th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the STEM education and workforce development initiatives1 through the STEM Summit held on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology; and2 for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, opportunities for career development are due in large part to the varied4 education and training available at all levels, including high school career academies,5 workplace apprenticeships, Georgia's renowned system of technical colleges, and prestigious6 public universities; and7 WHEREAS, a recent analysis of STEM occupations nationwide by Science is US found that8 the number of STEM jobs in Georgia increased by 186,000 between 2017 and 2021, a 9.69 percent increase, which was twice the national average; and10 WHEREAS, Georgia's 2.1 million STEM professionals represent one -third of the state's11 labor force and account for 39 percent of the state's gross domestic product; and12 WHEREAS, 56 percent of Georgia's STEM professionals do not have a bachelor's degree,13 instead pursuing their training through technical colleges, the military, and vocational and14 other technology education programs; and15 H. R. 321 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3057 WHEREAS, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce16 are great partners in identifying high-demand careers needed for the businesses of today and17 those projected in the future; and18 WHEREAS, the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia19 have effectively and efficiently adjusted curriculum and investments of state dollars in STEM20 education programming; and21 WHEREAS, all meaningful jobs provide value, and career paths ne ed to be attainable22 through many avenues. Opportunities for STEM professionals are on the rise, and Georgia23 is well positioned to deliver for businesses across the state; and24 WHEREAS, STEM jobs are a growing factor in the equation for Geo rgia's long-term25 success, and education and workforce training are key.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body commend STEM students, educators, and partner organizations for28 highlighting the many opportunities for a STEM workforce to address the needs of a growing29 Georgia.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the32 public and the press.33 H.
