SR219: SR219 ReadSource and Purpose Built Schools of Atlanta; congratulate

25 LC 112 2965 Senate Resolution 219 By: Senators Hickman of the 4th and Orrock of the 36th A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending ReadSource and Purpose Built Scho ols of Atlanta,1 recipients of the Georgia Reads Community Award, for their dedi cation to literacy2 advancement; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth4 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critic al role in addressing low5 literacy rates; and6 WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to r ecognize7 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,8 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and m easurable results in literacy9 improvement; and10 WHEREAS, ReadSource and Purpose Built Schools of Atlanta are recipients of the Georgia11 Reads Community Award for their dedicated efforts in providing direct literacy instruction12 to struggling readers; and13 WHEREAS, ReadSource remediation specialists work with students at Atlanta Public14 Schools—Slater Elementary and Price Middle School—two to four d ays a week, offering15 S. R. 219 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2965 targeted literacy support in small group settings with a 1:3 specialist-to-student ratio, with16 sessions lasting approximately 30 to 40 minutes; and17 WHEREAS, their meaningful partnerships include ReadSource, Purp ose Built Schools of18 Atlanta, and The Schenck School, demonstrating a strong commitm ent to literacy19 development through specialized instruction and collaborative support; and20 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,21 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and22 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of ReadSource and Purpose Built Schools of23 Atlanta serve as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the po wer of community-driven24 solutions to address literacy challenges.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26 congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award reci pients, particularly27 ReadSource and Purpose Built Schools of Atlanta, for their exem plary service and28 unwavering commitment to improving literacy in their communities.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for dis tribution to ReadSource and31 Purpose Built Schools of Atlanta.32 S.
