A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Chapter 4 of Title 1 of the Official Code of Georgia A nnotated, relating to1
holidays and observances, so as to designate April of each year as Georgia Native Plant2
Month; to amend Article 3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Offic ial Code of Georgia3
Annotated, relating to other state symbols, so as to change the state floral emblem to the4
sweetbay magnolia; to provide for r elated matters; to provide f or a short title; to repeal5
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.6
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:7
SECTION 1.8
This Act shall be known and may be cited as the "Caroline Romberg Silcox Act."9
SECTION 2.10
Chapter 4 of Title 1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to holidays and11
observances, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:12
"1-4-28.13
The month of April of each year is designated as 'Georgia Native Plant Month' in Georgia."14

SECTION 3.15
Article 3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to other16
state symbols, is amended by revising Code Section 50-3-53, relating to state floral emblem,17
as follows:18
"50-3-53.19
The Cherokee rose sweetbay magnolia (Magnolia virginiana) is adopted as the floral20
emblem of the State of Georgia."21
SECTION 4.22
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed. 23
