25 LC 112 3086 House Resolution 364 By: Representatives Jones of the 143rd, Hugley of the 141st, Willis of the 55th, Kendrick of the 95th, and Bennett of the 94th A RESOLUTION Honoring the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Eta Chapter on its 50th1 Chartering Anniversary; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Eta Chapter was chartered3 on January 11, 1975, at Mercer University's Macon campus by 17 trailblazing women4 dedicated to sisterhood, scholarship, and service; and5 WHEREAS, the establishment of this historic chapter at Mercer U niversity marked a6 significant milestone in the advancement of diversity, leadersh ip, and community7 engagement on campus; and8 WHEREAS, for five decades, the Iota Eta Chapter has upheld the principles of Alpha Kappa9 Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, through its commitment to academi c excellence, leadership10 development, and impactful service initiatives that have enriched both the Mercer University11 community and the greater Macon area; and12 WHEREAS, the contributions of the 17 charter members—Carolyn Chisholm, Berdell Cook,13 Juanita Cook, Loretta Grier, Phyllis Hancock, Deborah James, Va nessa James, Cheryle14 Johnson, Deborah Johnson, Shirley Jones, Naomi McMillan, Sherro n McQueen, Benita15 H. R. 364 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3086 Marks, Wynona Sharp, Elvenia Winchester, Gwendolyn Wright, and Lorenia Wright—laid16 a strong foundation that continues to inspire generations of yo ung women to lead with17 purpose and serve with dedication; and18 WHEREAS, with 41 current members, the Iota Eta Chapter remains a beacon of sisterhood19 and service, fostering an environment that encourages academic achievement, professional20 growth, and civic responsibility; and21 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the Alpha Kap pa Alpha Sorority,22 Incorporated, Iota Eta Chapter be appropriately honored for its outstanding contributions in23 promoting leadership, education, and service throughout its 50-year history.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25 the members of this body honor and congratulate the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,26 Incorporated, Iota Eta Chapter on its 50th Chartering Anniversa ry at Mercer University,27 commend its members both past and present for their dedication to service and scholarship,28 and extend best wishes for continued success in the years ahead.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the31 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Eta Chapter.32 H.
