25 LC 112 3115 Senate Resolution 253 By: Senators Kennedy of the 18th, Jones II of the 22nd, Gooch of the 51st, Jackson of the 41st, Robertson of the 29th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing March 11, 2025, as Georgia Linemen Day; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Georgia's linemen are dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to ensure that2 electrical power is restored to homes and communities during ti mes of crisis, often under3 dangerous and challenging conditions; and4 WHEREAS, Georgia's linemen play an essential part in maintainin g the state's power5 infrastructure, ensuring the safety and well-being of Georgians before and after natural6 disasters, storms, and other events; and7 WHEREAS, during Hurricane Helene, a devastating hurricane that ravaged multiple areas8 of Georgia, linemen were on the front lines, sometimes working up to 18-hour days in9 hazardous conditions to restore power to thousands of residents in the wake of widespread10 outages caused by downed power lines and infrastructure damage; and11 WHEREAS, more than 8,000 women and men worked long hours in the a f t e r m a t h o f12 Hurricane Helene, often in high winds and rain, demonstrating e xtraordinary courage,13 resilience, and commitment to their communities as well as ensuring that power was restored14 as quickly and safely as possible to support recovery efforts; and15 S. R. 253 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3115 WHEREAS, the swift and efficient restoration of electrical serv ices by Georgia's linemen16 during and after Hurricane Helene was critical in enabling the recovery process, providing17 relief to those affected by power outages, and ensuring the saf ety of residents and first18 responders in the storm's aftermath; and19 WHEREAS, Georgia's linemen continue to be instrumental in maint aining the state's20 electrical infrastructure and responding to emergencies, includ ing hurricanes and severe21 storms, ensuring that Georgia's communities remain resilient in the face of natural disasters;22 and23 WHEREAS, our linemen's dedication to service exemplifies the va lues of hard work,24 teamwork, and selflessness, making them unsung heroes during times of crisis; and25 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the contributions of Georgia's line men be recognized and26 celebrated for their vital role in safeguarding the state's residents and infrastructure during27 and after natural disasters, including Hurricane Helene.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 recognize March 11, 2025, as Georgia Linemen Day to honor and celebrate the exceptional30 efforts of Georgia's linemen, past and present, in their ongoing commitment to public service31 and the protection of our state's residents.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the34 press.35 S.
