A RESOLUTION
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution so as to provide that members of the General1
Assembly elected in 2028 and thereafter shall serve four-year terms of office; to provide that2
members of the General Assembly elected in the 2026 general election shall serve two-year3
terms of office; to provide for related matters; to provide for the submission of this4
amendment for ratification or rejection; and for other purposes.5
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6
SECTION 1.7
Article III, Section II of the Constitution is amended by revising Paragraph V as follows:8
"Paragraph V. Election and term of members. ( a ) T h e m e m b e r s o f t h e G e n e r a l9
Assembly elected in 2028 and thereafter shall be elected by the qualified electors of their10
respective districts for a term of two four years and shall serve until the time fixed for the11
convening of the next General Assembly.12
(b) The members of the General Assembly in office on June 30, 1983, elected in the13
2026 general election shall serve out the remainder of the two-year terms to which elected.14
(c) The first election for members of the General Assembly under this Constitution shall15
take place on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, 1984 2026, and subsequent16

elections biennially until 2028, and subsequent elections after 2028 quadrennially on that17
day until the day of election is changed by law."18
SECTION 2.19
The above proposed amendment to the Constitution shall be publi shed and submitted as20
provided in Article X, Section I, Paragraph II of the Constitution. The ballot submitting the21
above proposed amendment shall have written or printed thereon the following:22

Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that members
of the General Assembly shall serve four-year terms of office after the 2028
general election?"
All persons desiring to vote in favor of ratifying the proposed amendment shall vote "Yes."26
All persons desiring to vote against ratifying the proposed amendment shall vote "No." If27
such amendment shall be ratified as provided in said Paragraph of the Constitution, it shall28
become a part of the Constitution of this state.29
