25 LC 112 3137 House Resolution 386 By: Representatives Erwin of the 32nd and Berry of the 56th A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending the Black Child Development Insti tute, recipient of the1 Georgia Reads Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth4 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critic al role in addressing low5 literacy rates; and6 WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to r ecognize7 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,8 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and m easurable results in literacy9 improvement; and10 WHEREAS, the Black Child Development Institute is a recipient o f the Georgia Reads11 Community Award for its dedicated efforts in promoting early li teracy and language12 development for families with children from birth to age eight; and13 H. R. 386 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3137 WHEREAS, the Read to Succeed program assists families in establ ishing home libraries14 filled with culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate children's books to foster15 a love of reading and learning; and16 WHEREAS, its meaningful partnerships include the United Way of Greater Atlanta, the17 Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, the Georgia Early Education Alliance for18 Ready Students, and the Atlanta Speech School's Rollins Center for Language and Literacy,19 demonstrating a strong commitment to literacy development throu gh collaboration and20 resource-sharing; and21 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,22 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and23 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of the Black Child Development Institute and its24 partners serve as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the p ower of community-driven25 solutions to address literacy challenges.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award28 recipients, particularly the Black Child Development Institute, for their exemplary service29 and unwavering commitment to improving literacy in their communities.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32 Black Child Development Institute.33 H.
