A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Charles Person; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Charles Person, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and one of the youngest original2
Freedom Riders, dedicated his life to the pursuit of civil rights, justice, and equality for all3
Americans; and4
WHEREAS, as a courageous advocate for desegregation, Charles Person joined the Freedom5
Riders in 1961 at the age of 18, enduring physical violence and grave danger in his steadfast6
commitment to challenging segregation laws and practices in the United States; and7
WHEREAS, Charles Person's bravery and resilience, alongside his fellow Freedom Riders,8
played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement, ultimately leading to landmark legislative9
and cultural changes that advanced racial equality; and10
WHEREAS, after his involvement with the Freedom Riders, Charles Person continued his11
lifelong dedication to education, mentorship, and preserving th e legacy of the civil rights12
movement, inspiring generations to advocate for justice and equality; and13

WHEREAS, Charles Person's remarkable contributions to the struggle for civil rights have14
been recognized and celebrated nationally; and 15
WHEREAS, Charles Person passed away on January 8, 2025, leaving behind an enduring16
legacy of courage, activism, and a commitment to social justice.17
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body18
posthumously honor Charles Person for his extraordinary contrib utions to the civil rights19
movement and his unwavering dedication to creating a more just and equitable society. 20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body extend the ir deepest21
condolences to Charles Person's family, friends, and all those who were inspired by his work.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed23
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the family of24
Charles Person.25
