25 LC 112 3130 House Resolution 384 By: Representatives Erwin of the 32nd, Hagan of the 156th, and Williams of the 148th A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending the Ben Hill County School Distri ct, recipient of the1 Georgia Reads Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth4 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critic al role in addressing low5 literacy rates; and6 WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to r ecognize7 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,8 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and m easurable results in literacy9 improvement; and10 WHEREAS, the Ben Hill County School District is a recipient of the Georgia Reads11 Community Award for its collaborative efforts to address barriers that students face, such as12 poverty, lack of resources, and academic challenges; and13 H. R. 384 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3130 WHEREAS, Communities in Schools collaborates with the Ben Hill County School District14 to place site coordinators within schools to build relationship s with students and families,15 offering mentorship, counseling, and academic support; and16 WHEREAS, its meaningful partnerships include the Ben Hill Count y School District,17 Communities in Schools, L4GA, CLCP, Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Chamber of Commerce,18 Dorminy Medical Center, the Monitor Enrichment Program, civic organizations, PTO, and19 numerous private businesses and industries in Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County, demonstrating20 a strong commitment to literacy development through community collaboration; and21 WHEREAS, the Ben Hill County School District and its partners have diligently developed22 and implemented innovative programs that have increased literac y rates within their23 communities; and24 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,25 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and26 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of the Ben Hill County Sc hool District and its27 partners serve as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the p ower of community-driven28 solutions to address literacy challenges.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award31 recipients, particularly the Ben Hill County School District, for their exemplary service and32 unwavering commitment to improving literacy in their communities.33 H.
