25 LC 112 3136 House Resolution 381 By: Representatives Carpenter of the 4th, Ridley of the 6th, and Tarvin of the 2nd A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending Believe Greater Dalton, recipient of the Georgia Reads1 Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critic al role in addressing low4 literacy rates; and5 W H E R E A S , t h e G e o r g i a R e a d s C o m m u n i t y A w a r d w a s e s t a b l i s h e d t o recognize6 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and m easurable results in literacy8 improvement; and9 WHEREAS, Believe Greater Dalton, the strategic planning initiative of the Greater Dalton10 Chamber of Commerce, is a recipient of the Georgia Reads Commun ity Award for its11 dedicated efforts in improving school readiness and ensuring all children are reading at grade12 level by third grade; and13 WHEREAS, over the past decade, Believe Greater Dalton has built a framework of14 collaborative partners whose sole purpose is to achieve these literacy goals; and15 H. R. 381 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3136 WHEREAS, its meaningful partnerships include the B8 team, which meets bi-monthly and16 includes leaders from Dalton Public Schools and Whitfield Count y Schools, Dalton State17 College and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, United Way, Family Connections,18 local childcare centers, healthcare professionals from Vitruvian Health and the Anna Shaw19 Children's Institute, faith-based organizations, and various no nprofit organizations and20 governmental agencies vital to serving children; and21 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,22 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and23 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of Believe Greater Dalton and its partners serve24 as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of communi ty-driven solutions to25 address literacy challenges.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award28 recipients, particularly Believe Greater Dalton, for their exemplary service and unwavering29 commitment to improving literacy in their communities.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to32 Believe Greater Dalton.33 H.
