25 LC 112 3051 Senate Resolution 269 By: Senators Brass of the 6th, Hatchett of the 50th, Kemp of th e 38th, Sims of the 12th, Merritt of the 9th and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating the University of Georgia women's tennis team fo r winning the 2025 ITA1 National Team Indoor Championship; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the University of Georgia women's tennis team has established and maintained3 a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics; and4 WHEREAS, this superlative team continues its triumphant season of tennis competition by5 securing the 2025 ITA National Team Indoor Championship, marking the seventh national6 championship and fifth national indoor title in program history; and7 WHEREAS, the Bulldogs demonstrated their strength in doubles pl ay with Guillermina8 Grant and Anastasiia Lopata earning a dominant 6-1 victory on c ourt two, while Dasha9 Vidmanova and Mell Reasco fought back to claim a 7-5 win on court one; and10 WHEREAS, in singles competition, Sofia Rojas delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory11 on court six to extend the Bulldogs' lead, followed by Aysegul Mert's hard-fought 6-2, 7-512 win on court four, putting Georgia one point away from clinching the title; and13 S. R. 269 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3051 WHEREAS, top-ranked Dasha Vidmanova secured the championship for the Bulldogs with14 a clutch performance, defeating No. 3 Mary Stoiana in a tense second-set tiebreaker to win15 6-1, 7-6(5) and seal Georgia's place as national champions; and16 WHEREAS, Dasha Vidmanova made history by becoming the first college women's tennis17 player since 2013 to achieve the championship trifecta, winning national titles in team,18 singles, and doubles competition during her collegiate career; and19 WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding20 athletic ability, dedication, hard work in the right direction, use of tools, and unity of purpose21 and spirit of each member of the team; its superb offensive and defensive talents; and the22 ability to fit Capability to Opportunity under the astute direc tion of Head Coach Drake23 Bernstein, the fastest head coach in program history to win a national championship at the24 helm; and25 WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by26 performing with courage and precision over months of training a nd competition, it is27 abundantly proper to call them champions.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 congratulate the University of Georgia women's tennis team for winning the 2025 ITA30 National Team Indoor Championship and extend best wishes for continued success.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the University of33 Georgia women's tennis team.34 S.
