25 LC 112 3047 Senate Resolution 273 By: Senator James of the 28th A RESOLUTION Recognizing March 20, 2025, as Mableton Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Mableton, Georgia, a vibrant community located in Cobb County, was officially2 incorporated as a city following a successful referendum on Nov ember 8, 2022, making it3 the largest city in Cobb County with a population of approximately 47,000 residents; and4 WHEREAS, the city was named after Scottish immigrant Robert Mable, who purchased land5 in the area in 1843 and established a farm that would later become central to the community's6 growth, with the historic Robert Mable House and Cemetery now s erving as an iconic7 cultural landmark that hosts public performances and events; and8 WHEREAS, Mableton's early development was shaped by the arrival of the Georgia Pacific9 Railway, which constructed a train depot in 1881, spurring econ omic growth and10 transforming the area into a vital commercial hub for then-rural Cobb County; and11 WHEREAS, the community benefits from its strategic location alo ng major highways,12 including Interstate 285, providing convenient access to Atlant a and supporting the city's13 economic and residential growth; and14 S. R. 273 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3047 WHEREAS, Mableton is further known for its proximity to the Silver Comet Trail, a long15 paved path designed for walking, biking, and jogging that runs through the area, as well as16 the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area; and17 WHEREAS, Mableton continues to experience growth and revitalization as well as uphold18 its commitment to fostering economic development, enhancing community engagement, and19 preserving its rich historical heritage; and20 WHEREAS, the citizens of Mableton take great pride in their cit y's history, progress, and21 contributions to Georgia, making it abundantly fitting and proper to celebrate this exemplary22 community during this special time.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 recognize March 20, 2025, as Mableton Day at the state capitol.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the27 press.28 S.
