25 LC 112 3046 Senate Resolution 274 By: Senator James of the 28th A RESOLUTION Recognizing March 25, 2025, as Austell Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Austell, Georgia, located in Cobb County and extending partially into Douglas2 County, was incorporated in 1885 and named after General Alfred Austell in recognition of3 his efforts to bring major railways to the South; and4 WHEREAS, General Austell was a prominent businessman who founde d the Atlanta5 National Bank, which later evolved through mergers to become part of Wells Fargo, and his6 legacy is honored by his elaborate mausoleum at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta; and7 WHEREAS, the Georgia Pacific Railway selected Austell as a station depot, positioning it8 a s a c r u c i a l d i v i d i n g p o i n t f o r m a j o r r a i l w a y l i n e s a n d s h a p i n g its development as an9 important transportation hub; and10 WHEREAS, today, Austell remains a key player in logistics and freight transportation due11 to its location along the CSX transportation corridor, facilita ting commerce and economic12 growth; and13 S. R. 274 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3046 WHEREAS, Austell is home to Six Flags Over Georgia, one of the most popular theme parks14 in the Southeast, attracting visitors from across Georgia and b eyond and contributing15 significantly to tourism and the local economy; and16 WHEREAS, the Cobb County School District serves Austell, provid ing quality education17 to students and fostering a strong, close-knit community with a ccess to higher education18 institutions such as Kennesaw State University in nearby areas; and19 WHEREAS, the citizens of Austell take great pride in their city 's history, economic20 contributions, and vibrant community, making it abundantly fitt ing and proper that it be21 appropriately honored during this special time.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23 recognize March 25, 2025, as Austell Day at the state capitol.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed25 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the26 press.27 S.
