25 LC 112 3040 Senate Resolution 276 By: Senator James of the 28th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. Layli Maparyan; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Layli Maparyan, co-founder and board member of the University2 Consortium for Liberia (UCL), was appointed as the 16th Preside nt of the University of3 Liberia on January 10, 2025, at the Fendall Campus in Louisiana , Montserrado County,4 Republic of Liberia; and5 WHEREAS, her appointment was made by His Excellency Joseph Nyum a Boakai Sr.,6 President of the Republic of Liberia, following the approval of the University's Board of7 Trustees in accordance with the University of Liberia's Charter; and8 WHEREAS, her selection followed a rigorous search process conducted by the University9 of Liberia Board of Trustees' Search Committee, which identified her as a leading candidate10 for the position; and11 WHEREAS, since her induction, Dr. Maparyan has upheld the "Five Es" of Education,12 Effectiveness, Efficiency, Excellence, and Ethics as well as wo rked to enhance the13 university's academic standing; and14 S. R. 276 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3040 WHEREAS, Dr. Maparyan has previously served as Associate Profes sor and Assistant15 Professor at Georgia State University's Women's Studies Institute and as Assistant Professor16 at the University of Georgia's Department of Psychology and Institute for African American17 Studies; and18 WHEREAS, she holds a PhD in psychology from Temple University, a Master of Science19 in psychology from Penn State University, and an undergraduate degree in philosophy from20 Spelman College; and21 WHEREAS, she was the first post-war Fulbright Specialist at the University of Liberia in22 2010 and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Distinguished Citizen23 Award for Service to the Liberian Community in 2009; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le individual be25 appropriately honored during this special time.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 recognize and commend Dr. Layli Maparyan upon her induction as the 16th President of the28 University of Liberia as well as extend sincere best wishes for continued success.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Dr. Layli31 Maparyan.32 S.
