25 LC 112 3161 House Resolution 438 By: Representatives Taylor of the 92nd, McQueen of the 61st, Carter of the 93rd, Glaize of the 67th, Davis of the 87th, and others A RESOLUTION Commending the Spelman College Glee Club on its 100th anniversa ry for its outstanding1 contributions to the arts and community; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Spelman College Glee Club, established in 1924, ha s a proud and rich3 tradition of musical excellence, serving as a beacon of artisti c achievement for over a4 century; and5 WHEREAS, through its commitment to the pursuit of musical excellence, the Glee Club has6 become a cornerstone of Spelman College's cultural and artistic identity, enriching the lives7 of its members and audiences within their mission to amaze and inspire; and8 WHEREAS, the Glee Club has performed with distinguished artists and organizations such9 as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wond er, President Barack10 Obama, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and India.Arie, among many others, demonstrating11 its global reach and impact in the field of music; and12 WHEREAS, in celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Spelman C ollege Glee Club has13 continued to build bridges through its performances, uniting co mmunities, cultures, and14 generations in song and spirit; and15 H. R. 438 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3161 WHEREAS, the Glee Club's unwavering commitment to its mission, fostering artistic talent,16 discipline, and leadership, has set a standard for excellence a nd has produced remarkable17 leaders who have carried the legacy of the Spelman spirit to every corner of the world; and18 WHEREAS, the Glee Club's remarkable performances and community outreach, including19 its participation in high-profile events such as Jimmy Carter's 100th birthday celebration and20 the King Celebration, reflect the Glee Club's role as an ambassador for Spelman College and21 the broader community; and22 WHEREAS, under the direction of Dr. Kevin P. Johnson, the Glee Club has flourished and23 expanded its influence, continuing to inspire and touch the lives of many through music and24 dedication.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body commend the Spelman College Glee Club for its 100 years of27 musical excellence, its contributions to the arts, and its role as a powerful force for cultural28 enrichment, unity, and social change as well as extend their heartfelt congratulations and best29 wishes for continued success in the years to come.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32 Spelman College Glee Club.33 H.
