25 LC 61 0166 House Bill 674 By: Representatives Paris of the 142nd, Hilton of the 48th, Ballard of the 147th, Glaize of the 67th, Wade of the 9th, and others A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Code Section 20-2-149.4 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to1 financial literacy instruction and curriculum, so as to require the State Board of Education2 to adopt content standards for instruction in financial literac y and money management for3 grades four and five; to require local boards of education to provide instruction in financial4 literacy and money management in grades four and five; to provi de for related matters; to5 repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:7 SECTION 1.8 Code Section 20-2-149.4 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotat ed, relating to financial9 literacy instruction and curricu lum, is amended by adding a new subsection to read as10 follows:11 "(c)(1) No later than January 1, 2026, the State Board of Education shall adopt content12 standards for instruction in financial literacy and money management to be completed by13 students in grades four and five.14 H. B. 674 - 1 - 25 LC 61 0166 (2) Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, each local board of education shall provide15 instruction in financial literacy and money management for students in grades four and16 five, and such instruction may be incorporated into an existing course of study."17 SECTION 2.18 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.19 H.
