25 LC 112 3170 House Resolution 443 By: Representatives Holly of the 116th, Berry of the 56th, Olaleye of the 59th, Willis of the 55th, Burnough of the 77th, and others A RESOLUTION Commending Raising Expectations Inc.; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, as college students at Georgia State University, Dr. M aria Armstrong and2 Tangee Allen recognized the challenges faced by African America n youth in low-wealth3 communities and began providing tutoring and mentoring for youth in Decatur; and4 WHEREAS, what began as a volunteer effort quickly grew into a structured and sustained5 initiative as Dr. Armstrong, Tangee, and their peers dedicated themselves to supporting6 children academically and personally, leading the two women to found Raising Expectations7 Inc.; and8 WHEREAS, for 27 years, Raising Expectations Inc. has provided i mpactful youth9 development programming to students in Atlanta communities, including Decatur, East Lake,10 Pittsburgh, Vine City, English Avenue, Washington Park, and the Westside; and11 WHEREAS, this outstanding organi zation employs a 360-degree app roach to youth12 development that addresses students' academic, social, and ment al well-being through13 tutoring, mentoring, STEM exposure, college preparation, and hands-on learning to improve14 college readiness; and15 H. R. 443 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3170 WHEREAS, Raising Expectations Inc. maintains a high-expectation model in which students16 are required to attend programmi ng four days per week throughou t the school year and17 participate in enrichment activities designed to foster new skills and interests; and18 WHEREAS, its signature program, the Academic Tutorial Academy, is the focal component19 of Project D.R.E.A.M. (Developing Raised Expectations for Adolescent Minds), supporting20 students through individualized learning plans, one-on-one mentorship, and computer-based21 instruction to bridge academic gaps and improve standardized test performance; and22 WHEREAS, Raising Expectations Inc. further collaborates with sc hool administrators,23 parents, and teachers to align its academic support with classroom learning, using ongoing24 assessment and data-driven instruction to increase student achievement; and25 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le nonprofit be26 appropriately honored.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body commend Raising Expectations Inc. for its outstanding29 contributions to youth development and education in this state as well as extend sincere best30 wishes for its continued success.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to33 Raising Expectations Inc.34 H.
