A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Punjabi language; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, native to the Punjab region of India and Pakistan, Pun jabi is the ninth most2
widely spoken language in the world, with approximately 600 million speakers; and3
WHEREAS, Punjabi has a significant number of speakers in India, Pakistan, the United4
Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Australia, as well as s maller communities of5
speakers in other countries; and6
WHEREAS, there are more than 780,000 Punjabi-speaking Americans and more than 15,0007
Punjabi-speaking Georgians; and8
WHEREAS, the Sikh American Society of Georgia and the Georgia P unjabi-speaking9
community are committed to preserving, protecting, and sharing Punjabi language, literature,10
art, culture, and traditions with fellow Georgians.11
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that12
the members of this body recognize the Punjabi language in honor of the contributions made13
by Punjabi speakers to our communities.14

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized15
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the16
public and the press.17
