25 LC 129 0172 House Resolution 441 By: Representatives Smith of the 70th, Jones of the 47th, Dempsey of the 13th, Hugley of the 141st, Greene of the 154th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Georgia Beverage Association; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Georgia has a strong and growing infrastructure for recycling; and2 WHEREAS, the issue of litter in our environment is a growing co ncern, and the improper3 disposal of litter and recyclables impacts our world-renowned oceans, rivers, and waterways,4 negatively affecting Georgia's environment, tourism, and economy; and5 WHEREAS, go it alone strategies will not have a substantial imp act or improve recycling6 rates, making it imperative that we shape the solution with collective action; and7 WHEREAS, the beverage industry is committed to creating a circu lar economy and8 improving the recycling rates of packaging through projects such as the Georgia Beverage9 Association's Made to be Remade initiative; and10 WHEREAS, the Made to be Remade initiative is committed to educating consumers about11 the value of recycling and investing in state-of-the-art infras tructure upgrades to expand12 access to recycling and support community education efforts; and13 H. R. 441 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0172 WHEREAS, The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig, Dr. Pepper, and PepsiCo have launched14 several initiatives to improve the recycling of beverage containers and reduce the industry's15 use of new materials by partnering with environment and sustainability leaders such as the16 World Wildlife Fund, Closed Loop Partners, and The Recycling Partnership; and17 WHEREAS, the industry's Every Bottle Back initiative is directing the equivalent of $40018 million to The Recycling Partnership and Closed Loop Partners through a new $100 million19 industry fund that will be matched three-to-one by other grants and investors to improve the20 collection of plastic bottle for recycling; and21 WHEREAS, the industry's Every Bottle Back initiative is working with the World Wildlife22 Fund to measure and track progress toward reducing the industry 's plastic footprint and23 improving the quality and availability of recycled plastic in k ey regions of the county,24 including Georgia; and25 WHEREAS, the Georgia Beverage Association's Made to be Remade initiative is committed26 to producing 100 percent recyclable cans, bottles, and caps.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Beverage Association for the29 increased recycling efforts it has undertaken through its Made to be Remade initiative as well30 as extend best wishes for continued success.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the33 Georgia Beverage Association.34 H.
