25 LC 112 3229 Senate Resolution 325 By: Senators Halpern of the 39th, Goodman of the 8th, Hodges of the 3rd, Wicks of the 34th, Merritt of the 9th and others A RESOLUTION Commending Jack and Jill of America, Inc.; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with2 children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening3 children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic4 duty; and5 WHEREAS, the late Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on6 January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when 20 mothers came together to discuss7 creating an organization to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth8 between the ages of two and 19 and in 1946, ten chapters were i nvolved in the national9 restructuring process where a constitution and bylaws were drawn up and the organization10 was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware; and11 WHEREAS, today, this organization has 262 chapters nationwide, representing 50,00012 families in seven regions with each chapter planning annual programming activities guided13 under a national theme, and through service projects, it create s a medium of contact for14 children to stimulate their growth and development; and15 S. R. 325 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3229 WHEREAS, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Inc., is the philanthropic arm of Jack16 and Jill of America, Inc., and since its inception in 1968, the Foundation has distributed17 millions of dollars to communities all across America; and18 WHEREAS, Georgia is part of the Southeastern Region and home to the 28th National19 President Darlene McGhee Wittington and the National Legislative Chair Dorothea "Dee"20 Dawkins-Haigler; the other members of the Regional Executive Bo ard include Regional21 Director Takeysha Lewis, Regional Treasurer Florence Holland, Regional Secretary Adria22 Welcher (Georgia), and Member-at-Large Selika Sampson; and23 WHEREAS, the Georgia chapters and their respective presidents are as follows: Albany –24 Nedra Fortson, Athens – Cheryl Sewell, Atlanta – Mikki Anderson , Augusta – Melissa25 Johnson, Buckhead Atlanta – LaNeish Holland, Columbus – Gina Daise, Dunwoody-Atlanta26 – Denise Daisy, East Suburban Atlanta – Sha'Ronda McRae, Fayett e County Area –27 Tash-Marie Cheney, Golden Isles – Shontae Buffington, Greater L ake Allatoona – Lisa28 McLeod, Greater Metropolitan Atlanta – Tiaudra Shaw, Greater No rth Atlanta – Kelly29 Johnson, Lake Spivey – Sandea Harris, Macon – Shandra Yarbrough , North Suburban30 Atlanta – Kimberly Fisher, Savannah – Aysha Parks, Southern Crescent – Neanda Andrew,31 Stone Mountain – Melvina Norwood, Valdosta – Jonessa Williams, and West Georgia –32 Kimberli Brown.33 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body34 commend the outstanding work of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and extend their sincere35 best wishes for the continued success of this invaluable organization.36 S.
