25 LC 112 3236 Senate Resolution 327 By: Senators Goodman of the 8th, Watson of the 11th, Summers of the 13th, Echols of the 49th, Dixon of the 45th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Lowndes County on the occasion of its Bicentennial; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Lowndes County was created by an act of the Georgia Ge neral Assembly on3 December 23, 1825, marking 200 years of rich history and progress; and4 WHEREAS, the county was named in honor of William J. Lowndes, a distinguished5 statesman from South Carolina; and6 WHEREAS, Valdosta was established in 1860 and has since played a significant role in the7 county's economic and infrastructural growth; and8 WHEREAS, today, Lowndes County is home to a thriving population of approximately9 120,700 residents and serves as a regional hub for economic growth and vitality; and10 WHEREAS, the county boasts key industries such as advanced manufacturing, agribusiness,11 food processing, warehousing, and distribution, making it an es sential contributor to12 Georgia's economy; and13 S. R. 327 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3236 WHEREAS, Lowndes County is home to Moody Air Force Base, which plays a crucial role14 in national defense and the local economy; and15 WHEREAS, the municipalities of Lowndes County, including Valdos ta, Hahira, Dasher,16 Lake Park, and Remerton, contribute to the county's diverse and vibrant community; and17 WHEREAS, as Lowndes County commemorates its Bicentennial, it is fitting to recognize18 and celebrate the county's rich heritage, economic progress, an d the enduring spirit of its19 residents.20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21 recognize and commend Lowndes County on the occasion of its Bicentennial and extend best22 wishes for continued prosperity and success.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed24 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Lowndes County25 officials and community leaders.26 S.
